1 Killed, Another With Severe Burns After House Fire In Hernando

HERNANDO, MS (localmemphis.com) - A Mid-South man is dead, his wife at Regional One Hospital with severe burns, after their home caught fire in Hernando.

At 12:45 a.m. Sunday firefighters responded to 4760 Bright Rd, when a person called reporting their neighbor's house on fire.

According to the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department, a severely burned man and woman were found outside.  Both were taken to Regional One Medical Center, where Steve Jones was pronounced dead.  His wife Sharon has been on life support, fighting for her life.  She was taken off life support Monday afternoon and we're told she's breathing on her own.

Investigators say a fire in the fireplace got out of control and is being ruled accidental.
