Two Injured In Crash Involving AMTRAK Train In North Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn (localmemphis.com) - A driver trying to beat a train on Fite Road early Wednesday morning is to blame for an accident that injured two people.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, one vehicle ran through the crossing arms trying to beat the train and hit another vehicle. 

According to Brent Perkins with the Shelby County Fire Department, one person had to be cut from one of the vehicles, another person received CPR on scene.

The train was an AMTRAK passenger train carrying 83 people from Chicago to New Orleans.  The train has left the scene.

The driver of the car that ran through the crossing will be cited for failure to yield.
