3-Year-Old Who Shot And Killed Himself Identified By Family As Cash Wilkerson

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - A three-year-old is dead tonight after accidentally shooting himself with his father's gun.

This happened in the 3600 block of Duchess Drive North at the new horizons apartment complex around 12:30 today.

Family members identify the 3-year-old as Cash Wilkerson.

He was rushed here to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital this afternoon in critical condition and died a short time after.

This investigation is ongoing, but what we've been able to confirm so far through family members, is that the little boy got a hold of his father's gun that was inside of a case and shot himself in the head.

Medics rushed him to Le Bonheur where he died.

Crime scene tape surrounded the apartment complex and blocked off the media.

People who live there say this incident is a reminder for gun safety.

Neighbor Garner "Lock them up. Be responsible, they are not toys. They are not anything you play with so if you value your family then take the proper precautions when you have firearms"

Garner says he has a little 2-year-old son so this hits close to home.
