Car Crash On Walnut Grove Leaves A Man Dead And Another In Critical Condition

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - A car crash on Walnut Grove leaves a man dead and another in the hospital Sunday morning.

It happened around 3 a.m. near the Walnut Grove exit ramp according to the Memphis Police Department.

Police say Melvin Deener was driving eastbound on the Walnut Grove exit ramp when the car came off the roadway and hit a directional sign. But he didn’t stop.

According to police Deener continued eastbound across all lanes of traffic, drove into opposing traffic, and crashed head on to into another vehicle.

Police say Deener’s vehicle finally came to a stop off the roadway. The other driver was killed on the scene.

Deener is charged with vehicular homicide due to intoxication, vehicular homicide/reckless driving, aggravated assault/reckless driving, and violation of financial law according to Memphis police.
