City Of Memphis Opens New 911 Call Center

MEMPHIS, Tenn (localmemphis.com) - The city of Memphis is now better equipped to respond to emergency situations during events like wintry weather.

A new eight million dollar state-of-the-art call center opened it's doors Thursday on Flicker Street.  that's near Union Avenue and south Hollywood.

"The ability to give people a first rate facility. to have a tough job because you know often you work 12 hour shift so a lot easier to do a 12 in a plush environment and again but you can focus on serving the citizens," Memphis Police Director Mike Rallings told Local 24 News.

City officials say two years ago the average 911 wait time was 59 seconds.
now it's under nine seconds.
