Congressman Steve Cohen Talks Health Care While In Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - U.S. Congressman Steve Cohen (D – TN District 9) is in Memphis, and says he is seriously concerned about what will happen to health care insurance.

Cohen spent Friday morning talking with people he represents at the Parkway Village library in Memphis.

Cohen is a serious critic of President Trump, and he and more than 20 other Congressmen are on record saying they have no confidence in the president.

He does have kind things to say about one republican, Senator John McCain, who has been diagnosed with brain cancer. It is an expensive operation, and Representative Cohen says it is not right that treatment is something only the wealthy are able to afford.

“Health care needs to be a right in this country. Everybody should have health care,” says Cohen. “There is no reason if you are John McCain and you have a $73,000 surgery, everybody should be able to have that. It shouldn't be if you're poor, you're dead."

The next thing Cohen plans in Washington is a hearing on whether the country is watching bits and pieces of the first amendment chipped away. It will be on Monday.
