DeSoto County School Bus Driver Is Being Called A Local Hero For Helping A Family In Distress

DESOTO COUNTY, MS (localmemphis.com) - A DeSoto County school bus driver is being hailed a local hero for helping a family in distress.
Driver Codi Parks is the only nursing student out of more than four hundred DCS bus drivers.

Heather Ries credits the DCS bus driver for saving her husband's life, "I got a call from my daughter at 6:41 that. She told me that her daddy was laying on the...sitting on the couch asleep with his eyes open. I left five minutes before that. Everything was fine."

Heather Ries rushed to her home in Hernando Hills.

"The bus was there. She was about to leave. I'm honking like erratically. She stops."

DeSoto County School bus driver Codi Parks was picking up Ries' 8 year old triplets early Thursday morning when she heard loud commotion coming from a panicked parent."

"She told me that her husband was possibly unconscious," said Codi Parks.

Parks says her first concern was her bus load of kids. She grabbed the bus keys and asked a nearby adult to watch the kids.

Parks is in her junior year of nursing school. She said her training kicked in.

"I knew that things were very serious. And so I laid him down to prepare him for CPR."

First responders arrived within minutes and took over. Parks is relieved she was in the right place at the right time.

"I just knew I had to intervene, so whatever I did was gonna be critical to his...his life," said Parks.

"Im just grateful for her and that it worked the way that it did. It was definitely a miracle," explained Ries.
