MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - A 12-year-old boy from Memphis was killed after he was shot by an intruder early Saturday morning according to his family.

Memphis Police say, at 3:15 a.m. Saturday a male was shot and killed in the 1200 block of Dana Dr. in North Memphis. A man ran from the scene wearing a white tank and blue jeans.

At a candlelight vigil Saturday night, family identified the shooting victim as 12-year-old Devin Johnson. Through tears Johnson's mother, Cecelia Berry, said he dreamed of becoming a professional dancer. Relatives described Johnson was a fun-loving free spirit.

Family members broke down in tears as they prayed together, released balloons in Johnson's memory, and pleaded for justice.

"My son did not deserve to die. But we can't question God. I'm so broken I'm so hurt. I ain't never going to see my son again," said Berry.

Details surrounding the shooting are limited. Berry said she woke up to her daughter screaming upon finding Johnson had been shot.  She said nothing was taken from the house, and they have no idea who would shoot the 7th grader.
