First Horse Installed On Historic Carousel At Children's Museum Of Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - The first horse is now up on the historic carousel at the Children's Museum of Memphis.

Local 24 was there as the horse was installed Tuesday morning. The ride is one of the oldest wooden carousels in the United States.

The carousel had been in the bluff city since 1923, and was a staple at Libertyland until it closed in 2005.

The CEO of the Children's Museum says the carousel will be a reminder of past memories, and a creation of new ones.

"In a little over two weeks, we'll have people here that will be able to relive memories that they've had when this carousel was at Libertyland,” says Art Davis, “… and, we'll also be able to create new memories for the children that are coming."

It took a company in Marion, Ohio, more than two years to restore the carousel back to its original beauty.

The ride will officially open to the public on Saturday, December 2nd.
