MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - Friday was Nexstar’s Founder's Day of Caring; a day for Local 24 to give back to the community. It's our parent company Nexstar's 21at anniversary. To commemorate it, Local 24 chose to clean up the golf course at Memphis Athletic Ministries in South Memphis.
"It's just an honor and a privilege for me to be able to come out here and do some of these things. I jumped at the opportunity,” says Local 24 Sports Director Doc Holliday.
Doc is one of dozens of Local 24 employees who rolled up their sleeves and went to work.
"Picking up all this trash cleaning up. Making sure this golf course is ready for the kids,” says production assistants Cedric Paxton.
Local 24 teamed up with Hollywood Furniture and Hardware for our Nexstar Founder's Day of Caring. Local 24 general manager Joe Denk says giving back is what we do. "We believe in the mission they provide to this community, and we are happy, in just a very small way, to help contribute to that mission. Local 24 employees got down and dirty, raking, bagging, trimming, to get the golf course clean for the kids.”
"We're just loading up all the branches and taking it over to a large compost pile that they've got set up,” says Local 24 Storm Team Meteorologist Chase Arnold.
Employees also worked inside. Like Local 24 Storm Team Meteorologist Chelsea Chandler.
"In your own words, yeah just tell me what y'all were talking about before we got here.,” asked Chelsea to the kids.
Local 24 anchor Katina Rankin read to kids, and shared the book she wrote; Up North Down South. "They actually came to live with me. And so, parts from the book are real."
Thanks to everyone who made the Nexstar Founder’s Day of Caring such a success for Memphis Athletic Ministries.
