IKEA Memphis Donates Beds To Refugees

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - From evacuees to refugees: IKEA is helping many refugees sleep a little better. Company reps were handing out beds in Memphis Monday morning.

IKEA’s "Five Thousand Dreams" campaign partnered with the "Refugee Empowerment Program" and the "Memphis African Community" to provide beds and bedding to those making a fresh start in the bluff city.

Organizers involved say a new bed can make a huge difference in a person's comfort, establishing a feeling of home.

"Everyone should have the right to have a safe warm place to sleep,” says Carol Smith with IKEA Memphis. “A bed is really the anchor of all that. So, the bed is probably one of the most important things you can provide a refugee family."

By the end of 2015, more than 65-million people were forcibly displaced from their countries.
