Investigation Into Break-In At Midtown Memphis Fire Station

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - Memphis police are searching for possibly three suspects in connection with as brazen a break in as you'll ever find.

It happened at one of the busiest fire stations in the city. Sometime between midnight and 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, somebody broke into a side window at Fire Station 11 on Union Avenue.

There are always firefighters on duty at Memphis fire stations; in this case 8 of them were sleeping upstairs while the crooks were downstairs.

"That's a very, very, active station. And I'm going to say 99% of the time from that time, I'm going to say they went to bed at midnight to 6 in the morning, the alarm never goes off, is very, very, rare at that station,” says Thomas Malone with the Memphis Firefighters Association.

Police say a couple hours after the burglary, two stolen credit cards belonging to one of the fire fighters were used in West Memphis.

The suspects were in a gray, Dodge Dakota pickup with a crew cab (4-door), with chrome trim on the wheel wells.

One suspect is described as a white man, 20 to 25-years-old, 5’10” tall and 250 pounds, with a chin beard. He has tattoos covering his arms and lower legs, and an earring in the right ear. He was wearing a blue ball cap, white watch, necklace, white t-shirt, khaki shorts, and work boots.

The second suspect is an African-American man, 25 to 30-years-old, 5’7” tall, 155 pounds, with a trimmed beard. He was wearing a blue t-shirt, dark shorts with red trim on the bottom, a black ball cap with gold writing on the front, white sneakers, and black socks.

Police say the fourth suspect is an African-American woman with long hair, and there is no description of the driver.

Warnings have been sent to the city's other fire departments, urging crews to take needed precautions to prevent additional break-ins.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
