Justin Welch's Criminal History

local memphis.com - Justin Welch made his first court appearance Monday. He is accused of shooting three people and killing Memphis Police Officer Verdell Smith.

Local 24 News has learned this isn't the first time he has been in trouble with the law.

In 2012, he was charged with vandalism in Shelby County, after punching out a the front window on a girlfriend's home.

A year later, in 2013, Welch pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful use of a weapon in Cook County, Illinois. He was sentenced to two years probation.

Welch was also emergency committed to a mental facility, but those records are not releasable to the public.
