Man Convicted Of Attempted Murder In Shooting Of 15-Year-Old Boy

(SHELBY COUNTY D.A. NEWS RELEASE) - A 21-year-old man was convicted Wednesday of attempted first-degree murder for shooting and critically injuring a 15-year-old boy leaving a store in the Parkway Village area, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.

A Criminal Court jury also convicted defendant Jacquez Russell of employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony. He will be sentenced in November.

The incident occurred Nov. 16, 2013, in the area of 4040 Knight Arnold Road near Getwell Road when Russell made a remark to the victim who was going into the store.

When the victim came out of the store minutes later, Russell began shooting at him from inside a car. The victim was struck in the hip and was hospitalized in critical condition. Several other shots struck a nearby home, though no one inside was hit.

The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Muriel Malone.
