Man Indicted For Second-Degree Murder In Shooting Of Cell Phone Store Clerk

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - A 22-year-old man accused of shooting and killing a clerk at a Whitehaven cell phone store in May  has been indicted on second-degree murder charges.

Damon Johnson is being held in the Shelby County Jail on $150,000 bond for the death of 24-year-old Rashad Awwad.

Investigators said May 15, 2017, Johnson and several friends went to the Boost Mobile store in the 1700 block of Winchester near Millbranch to have a cell phone repaired.

They say one of Johnson's friends got into an argument with Awwad inside the store. They then went outside, and investigators say as the men were leaving, Johnson pulled a gun and fired at Awwad, striking him four times and killing him.
