Memphis Is Fined A Half Million Dollars By The State Of Tennessee Over That Massive Sewage Spill

MEMPHIS, TENN (localmemphis.com) -

A year ago Friday 7.5 millions gallons of raw sewage began dumping into McKellar Lake. People impacted say the city is refusing to pay out claims connected to their losses.

"Honestly,  it's been a year ago today, but it seems like five years ago," said Larry Stanley, Marina owner.

Larry Stanley Owns Riverside Park Marina since the sewage spill keeping his business a float has been difficult.

"It destroyed our business for 2016 completely, " said Stanley.

Several of the boat owners and property owners down here say since the spill the city of Memphis has done nothing to compensate them for their losses such as cleaning their boats or the docks.

They filed claims last May so far nothing.

"The city has done nothing to provide funds for clean up around the marina, " said Gordon Grant, a boat owner.

Grant says on top of that the city is not turning over records they are legally entitled too.

The Local I-Team has asked for many of the same records, and the city has yet to turn the records over to us as well.

"They won't give us public records they won't give us anything. There was money spent on things that didn't help at all, and they won't provide us with any information about anything, said Grant."

Frustrated, they have now hired a lawyer and are considering their next move.

Unless an agreement can be made by the end of business Monday a lawsuit will likely be filed.
