Memphis Man Charged With Murder Of Pregnant Mother Found Dead In DeSoto County

DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. (localmemphis.com) - There’s been an arrest in the murder of a pregnant Memphis mother found dead in DeSoto County nearly two weeks ago. Demario Dansberry of Memphis is charged with the capital murder of Lashanda Otis.

 

Otis was found shot in the head next to a burning car on Graves Road in DeSoto County May 1st. Dansberry is also charged with arson.

According to family members, Dansberry is a friend of Otis' boyfriend, Mario Stevenson. The family says Stevenson served less than ten years in prison for shooting his brother-in-law and setting him on fire. The victim survived the incident.

Stevenson was released from prison some time last year. He and Otis share a daughter, who's been living with him since Otis' death. Otis' two other children are living with her sister in West Helena, AR.

Family members say they're relieved to hear about the arrest, but they want to know what happened and why she was killed.

DeSoto County investigators say they're looking into a motive, but as of now they can't say.

Dansberry is being held in the Shelby County Jail and could be extradited to DeSoto County as early as Monday.

HERNANDO, MISS. – DeSoto County Sheriff’s investigators have charged DEMARIO DANSBERRY with Capital Murder in the death of LASHANDA OTIS on May 1, 2017.  The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the arrest of Dansberry at his Memphis residence.

Dansberry is charged with Capital Murder and Arson. He is currently being held at the Shelby County Jail awaiting extradition to Mississippi.

The Murder and Arson occurred in Desoto County on a rural road.. Otis was found shot next to a burning vehicle on Graves Road.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Desoto County District Attorney’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted in this ongoing investigation.
