Memphis Police Say Man Is Dead After Being Shot By Girlfriend During A Fight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - Memphis police say a man is dead after a domestic fight ended with a woman shooting her boyfriend.

It happened about 10:30 p.m. Monday night in the 4100 block of Sassafras Drive. Police found the 48-year-old victim shot several times in the laundry room. He told officers his girlfriend shot them after an argument. He was taken to Regional One, where he later died.

The woman was found at Cobblestone and Sassafras Drive. She told officers she had a gun in her purse, of which they took possession, and put her into custody.

The woman’s 19-year-old son told officers that it was he who first got into a fight with the victim, because he took his mom’s car without permission. The son said his mom started to argue with her boyfriend after the man punched her son in the face. The woman told officers she shot the boyfriend because he grabbed a gun from the bedroom and fired at her son.

Officers say they found the woman’s children hiding in a bedroom.

No one has been charged. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the city's 31st homicide of the year.
