An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for a father accused of kidnapping his own 1-year-old daughter.

1- year- old Payden Thompson was found safe in Midtown Memphis. Her father 24 year old Pierre Cheer was still on the run as of Thursday night.

According to Memphis Police, there was a disturbance between Cheer the Thompson' mother before Cheer took his daughter from a Westwood home at gunpoint and drove away around 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

MPD issued a City Watch alert and used the K9 unit and aviation in their search.

"I was surprised because there's nothing like that usually going on over here. It's a lot of kids are here. They don't usually be harmed or none of that," said Tatyana Pride who lives near the Westwood home.

A few hours later an alert Memphis Police officer spotted the Mitsubishi Galant Cheer was driving in Midtown Memphis near Union and Cleveland.

He followed Cheer to a parking lot when a man got out of the car and tried to walk off holding a child. MPD says Cheer who was driving the car drove in reverse, hit the officer's car, drove forward hitting a parking pole, then drove off through the parking lot.

The man who had the child was detained.

Court records show Cheer has a lengthy and violent criminal record.

In April, Cheer was accused of beating the mother of his child with a crowbar.

The next day, police said Cheer threatened to kill another woman, his girlfriend while stomping on her face.

In February 2016, Cheer was charged with Domestic Violence Assault for punching his child's mother while she was 7 months pregnant with Payden.

In October 2016,  Cheer was charged with attempted First Degree Murder for shooting his daughter's mother three times as she tried to leave him.

In between those arrests in Memphis, investigators said Cheer was busted in May 2016 during a prostitution sting for pimping out his sister in an Oklahoma City hotel.

Cheer may be in a blue 2004 Mitsubishi Galant with 4 doors and temporary tags. Police believe he may be armed.
