Mid-South Toys For Tots Finally Gets Warehouse Space Thanks To Local 24 Viewer

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - The U-S Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program has a temporary home thanks to a Local 24 viewer.

Local attorney Brett Schubert saw our story and reached out to one of his clients who had empty warehouse space in Olive Branch.

Toys for Tots now has an 82,000 square foot warehouse to move into this week. It's beside the Ice House skating rink in the industrial park. The space was donated by Premium Guard, a local distributor of air & oil filters to places like AutoZone.

Toys for Tots had turned away at least six tractor trailer loads of toys and batteries because they didn't  have a place to put anything. Now they do.

Carrol Howard, executive director of Toys for Tots, says she feels blessed. And she feels confident more than 16,000 families in the Mid-South area will have a Merry Christmas thanks to this donated space.

"There was a person that saw the news cast on Local 24 and he reached out to us and we've been communicating with him and he talked to someone else and it blossomed from there,” says Howard. "I have not been able to eat. I haven't been able to sleep ‘cause I'm like wondering what am I gonna do. I'm not gonna be able to take care of these children for Christmas this year ‘cause we didn't have a warehouse, so I'm just so grateful right now."

Local attorney Brett Schubert, the man who got this started, sent us a statement. It reads in part:

"As a Christian and a father of two, it frankly stunned me that no one had come forward since the story first aired on Local 24. The Toys for Tots foundation has done tremendous things in support of this community for a very long time and the ability to give something back in this time of need was simply something that could not be ignored.  The very first client I reached out to, Premium Guard, did not flinch in offering an approximately 82,000 sq foot warehouse space. I am very thankful to have seen the story on Local 24 and to represent a client such as Premium Guard which jumped at the ability to spread the true meaning of Christmas and further the wonderful work of the Toys for Tots organization.”

Toys for Tots serves 22 counties in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi.

So far more than 13,000 families have signed up. The deadline to sign up is November 15th.

Howard expects to have everything up & running by this weekend.
