Mid-South Veteran Receives West Tennessee Marine Of The Year Honor

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - A mid-south man received a very special honor Saturday.

George King, a Korean war veteran, received the West Tennessee Marine Of The Year honors today at his home in Germantown.

A pipes and drum corps as well as color guard was there for the occasion.

Neighbors say George is well respected and a true patriot.

"It’s an honor that's it’s given to me by the local marine detachment. I served 8 years for the detachment, but I’ve been inactive for the last 2 years. But they still remembered old George."

King signed up for the marines when he was 17 years old. He went to Korea at age 18, and served for 13 months before coming back to the U.S.
