Mid-Southerners Make Trip To D.C. For Presidential Inauguration

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - Only Local 24’s camera was there Tuesday night as more than 30 loyal Donald Trump supporters from across the Mid-South boarded a bus for the nation’s capital and this weekend’s inaugural festivities.
For some, it’s their first inauguration, but for all of them, anticipation was high as the bus rolled out shortly after midnight.

The organizer says the bus arrived in the nation’s capital at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday. Dozens from the Memphis area will be there with hundreds of thousands of others when the 45th President of the United States is sworn into office.

"It is just absolutely breathtaking, I can't remember since I've been so excited,” says Shirley Ward.

Before boarding the bus, the group poured wine; a reward after pouring their energy and time into the Trump presidential campaign for months.
"I just feel like all the hard work that all these people and I did is to save this country for our children and grandchildren,” Elaine Ervin.

"I just can't remember when I've been so excited,” says Ward. “And for my daughter to want to go with me, who hated politics but loves Trump. So, it's really an exciting time."

“Over the years, um, I've had family that knew some of the Trump family and so I sort of felt a bit of a connection,” says Ervin. “And I've had the honor of meeting Mr. Trump and I think he's probably one of the most honest, stable people that could ever lead our country and he has no agenda. He's just about you and me."

With their luggage and plenty of Trump apparel in tow, those embarking on this trip are beyond excited.
“When Donald Trump has his hand up and says ‘so help me God,’ I am going to take breath of fresh air and say Hallelujah,” says Ervin.

"When he takes that oath of office, it's just going to be amazing,” says Ward.

Those going to inauguration also said they aren’t concerned about security or expected demonstrations in Washington.
To date, more than 60 house Democrats, including Representative Steve Cohen of Memphis, said they will not attend the inauguration.
