MEMPHIS, Tenn (localmemphis.com) - One person is dead and six others are injured after a mass shooting in the New Chicago neighborhood of North Memphis.
Among the injured is a 14-year-old girl who was hit by a car that was speeding away from the scene.
The incident happened in the 1000 block of Morehead just after 6:00 Wednesday evening.
According to Memphis Police, a 23-year-old man fired a shot into the air when a large fight between several women broke out. That's when another man started shooting into the crowd, hitting six people.
When Memphis Police arrived, they found a 35-year-old woman laying in front of a house, she was taken to Regional One, where she later died.
While on the scene, officers found two other shooting victims, a 26-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl.
Two men, a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old, were taken to the hospital by private vehicle, both with gunshot wounds.
A sixth victim, a 32-year-old man, later showed up to Regional One with a gunshot wound.
All victims have been upgraded to non-critical or released except for the 20-year-old who is in critical condition.
Police say, at this point it appears that the victims and suspects are all known to each other.
This is an ongoing investigation.
