MPD: Physical Evidence Does Not Match Story Told By Father Of 3-Year-Old Killed

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - A Memphis man made his first court appearance Monday after his 3-year-old son was shot and killed this weekend.

Cortez Wilkerson is charged with reckless homicide, along with other weapon and drug charges.

Memphis police say Saturday, three-year-old Kash Sharp was found lying on a walkway at the New Horizon Apartments in Whitehaven. He died at the hospital.

According to an affidavit, Wilkerson told police he awoke to a gunshot, and found Kash in his lap shot in the head. However, investigators say the physical evidence on the scene does not match that claim. (The affidavit does not go into further detail.)

Police at the scene say they also found marijuana, scales, baggies, and the gun and ammunition.

Bond is set at $100,000 for Wilkerson. His next court appearance is set for July 17th.
