MPD: Third "Bump & Rob" Carjacking Reported Along Memphis Interstate

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - Memphis police now say there is a third robbery and carjacking after a driver was rammed by another car.

This one happened about 2:55 a.m. Thursday morning along I-55 near Shelby Drive. The victim said she was driving southbound on I-55 with a friend, when a black vehicle, possibly a 1999-2003 Honda Accord or Civic, crashed into the rear of her car.

She said she pulled over on the shoulder, and a man got out of the other car’s passenger seat with a gun. She said the man demanded she and her passenger to get out of the car and empty their pockets. She told investigators the suspect hit her with the gun, then got into her black Chevy Sonic, and both suspects took off.

The victim and her friend flagged down officers for help after. She said the man who had the gun had a red bandana on his left hand.

This happened only an hour before another man was robbed and carjacked in a similar fashion along I-240.

And Tuesday morning, another person reported being robbed and carjacked on I-55 near Brooks Road.

Police believe the two Thursday morning are connected.

Anyone with information in these cases is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
