Off-Duty Deputy Shot During Robbery Downtown

MEMPHIS, Tenn (localmemphis.com) - A Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy was shot early Monday morning during a robbery on S. Main.

Around 5:00 a.m. Memphis Police responded to a shooting outside of the Chisca at S. Main & Pontotoc Ave.

SCSO spokesperson, Earle Farrell, says Sgt. Joey Moore was leaving his apartment when an armed man approached him trying to rob him.  When Sgt. Moore ran, he was shot in the hip.  The suspect then took his wallet.

According to SCSO he's in satisfactory condition.

Sgt. Joey Moore is a 29-year veteran of the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

There is no information on the shooter.

This is an ongoing investigation.
