MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - What many considered impossible is looking very possible. And it could help ease parking in the Overton Park Greensward.
A month ago, the Overton Park Conservancy was told to raise $1 million by June 11th. The demand was so both the Memphis Zoo and the Conservancy would split a $2 million cost of studying a new parking plan, and for any construction.
The conservancy is a not-for-profit group, and while the zoo had raised $1 million dollars with ease. it was thought the conservancy would struggle.
It now looks like they'll make it. "We just received word that we're going to receive a $250-thousand gift from a friend of the conservancy. So that will put our total at about $813-thousand,” says Tina Sullivan.
There are more fundraising events scheduled. And right now, Sullivan feels confident they will raise at least $1 million by the June 11th deadline.
