Oxford Man Charged With Kidnapping & Robbing Elderly Homeowner

OXFORD, Miss. (localmemphis.com) - Oxford, Mississippi, Police have arrested a man and charged him with kidnapping and robbing an elderly victim.

 

Ale Burt, 60, is charged with burglary, kidnapping, robbery, motor vehicle theft, felony fleeing, and possession of burglary tools.

 

Police say about 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, Burt broke into a home on Elm Street, and kidnapped the elderly homeowner. Investigators say Burt forced the homeowner to the victim’s car, then drove them to a location and made the victim cash checks and give him the money.

 

Investigators say the victim was able to tell the clerk that he/she were being held against their will. The business contacted police, and responding officers spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it, but the driver took off.

 

Police say eventually Burt bailed out and tried to run, but he was arrested later. Officers say they found burglary tools and the victim’s money in the car.

 

Burt’s bond is set at $200,000.
