Pro Tennis Tournament Memphis Open Leaving For New York

Move leaves bluff city without a pro tournament for first time in 4 decades

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - A former Commercial Appeal sports editor reports The Memphis Open is packing up, and heading for New York. Phil Stukenborg says the annual tennis tournament will move to Long Island, NY in 2018. It will be the first time in more than 40 years Memphis will not host a pro tennis tournament.

Stukenborg cites sources which say GF Sports, which has operated the Open since 2017, is moving after consecutive years of losses of more than $1 million.
