Second Arrest In West Memphis Murder; Suspect's Mom Also Arrested

Police say the mother helped her son stay on the run

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (localmemphis.com) - West Memphis police say they have arrested a second man in a murder earlier this month on North 28th Street.

Malik Macklin was arrested in Conway, Arkansas, by members of the U.S. Marshals’ Office. They also arrested Macklin’s mother, Melica Macklin, for hindering apprehension or prosecution. Investigators say she gave money and resources to her son to help him stay on the run.

Malik Macklin and Derrick Brown, who was arrested previously, are charged with first degree murder and battery.

Police say the duo are accused of shooting Desmond Davis on North 28th street July 5th. Davis’ mother was also hit by a bullet in the arm during the shooting.

Macklin is being held at the Faulkner County jail in Conway.

Melica Macklin is being held in the Crittenden County Detention Center. She is due to appear in West Memphis District Court on Friday July 21st, 2017 for a bond hearing.
