SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (localmemphis.com) - Southaven Police are investigating the murder of a mother found shot in her garage.
57-year-old Brenda Wright was found shot to death at her Southaven home in the 900 block of McGowan Drive near Northwest Mississippi Community College before 10:00 p.m. Thursday night.
Local 24 talked to Brenda Wright's husband. He didn't want to go on camera, but he did talk to us about finding his wife shot to death.
Southaven Police Chief Steve Pirtle said they don't believe this shooting was random.
“At this time, we don't feel like there's any need for alarm in the community,” said Chief Pirtle.
He said investigators are talking to neighbors and family members of Brenda Wright, a mother and grandmother found murdered in her garage Thursday night. According to Chief Pirtle, this shooting, which is Southaven's second murder this year, appears to be an isolated incident. They're following several leads.
“There's nothing there at this point to lead us to believe that this was a random act,” said Chief Pirtle. “We don't feel like we have an unknown person that's randomly attacking people.”
Wright's husband talked to us off camera. He said he left their house around 7:30 p.m. to pick up his stepson in Horn Lake. He said he texted with Wright 15 minutes before he got home and found her shot to death. He said nothing was stolen.
According to investigators, neighbors heard multiple gunshots and called 911 just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday night.
“Our hearts go out to the families. We know there's been a mother and grandmother that's been lost in this deal, especially here at Mother's Day,” said Chief Pirtle.
