Thursday Panel Will Look At How Faith Community Can Help Fight Opioid Crisis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - Addiction treatment centers are teaming up with churches to help fight the opioid epidemic.

They say the faith community has a role in providing care to people suffering from addiction. Oxford Treatment Center is holding a workshop and panel discussion at Getwell Church this week.

They'll be answering questions and discussing opioid addiction, and how everyone has to step up and fight this epidemic together.

"We have the ability to help pastors and help the church and understand a little more about the disease of addiction,” says Brian Whisenant with Oxford Treatment Center. “And so, we're gonna have a four-person panel open to the public ask questions. Anything they rang to know about the disease of addiction and how we can break stigma so we can get people help.”

The panel discussion is set for this Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. at Getwell Church on Getwell Road in Southaven. The event is free and open to the public.
