BARTLETT, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam returned to school Wednesday for a first-hand look at education policy at work.
The Governor visited Appling Middle School in Bartlett as part of his "Capital to the Classroom" tour of schools. While at Appling Middle, Governor Haslam visited Mrs. Schwann Logan's class. Logan is a member of the Governor's teachers cabinet.
Gov. Haslam says it’s important to get feedback on education policy from the teachers themselves.
“It’s a long way from the classroom to the capitol, as we say. This is about trying to shrink that distance, and be with principals and superintendents, teachers, et cetera, and say well all that sounds good behind the Governor's desk, but here's what it sounds like in front of a chalkboard,” says Haslam.
The teachers cabinet is a group of 17 teachers from across the state that provide Governor Haslam with direct information and feedback from the classroom.
