Veterans Help Finish Habitat For Humanity Home

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - Veterans Day is usually a time for us to honor those who serve, but it was local military heroes serving the community on Friday.

Friday was Habitat for Humanity and AutoZone's annual "Heroes Build Day."

Along with volunteers from Habitat and AutoZone, more than 40 active and retired veterans and first responders helped complete a Habitat home in the Oakhaven neighborhood of Memphis.

The home's recipient, Gregory Howard, also happens to be an Army veteran who helped with the project.

He says his whole family is excited for a new beginning thanks to everyone involved.

"The Habitat family has been so nice to us. They treat us like family, you know? We're just ready to move in and enjoy our new neighborhood and our new way of life," says Howard.

Habitat for Humanity in Memphis has been doing "Heroes Build Day" since 2013 as a way to honor those lost in the 9-11 attacks.

AutoZone has been sponsoring the annual event since 2015.
