Lawyers Reveal Names Of Southaven Officers They Believe Shot & Killed Ismael Lopez

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (localmemphis.com) - Lawyers for the man shot to death by Southaven Police reveal the names of the officers they believe are responsible.

Ismael Lopez was killed after Southaven Police went to the wrong house while assisting in a domestic case two months ago.

Wednesday, the Local I-Team broke the story that the attorneys had narrowed down the list. Now the lawyers are calling out names. Lawyers for Lopez say if Southaven Police won't name the officers, then they will.

"(The officers) were in fact on duty the night of Ismael Lopez's murder and city of Southaven refuses to release their files to confirm they were the shooters,” said Aaron Neglia.

Southaven police have refused to release the names, saying they can't because it's under investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

The attorney says according to the departments roll call sheet, both officers worked that night, and those officers handled the call.

Southaven police won't confirm those names. A captain told the Local I-Team it's irresponsible to do so. But Neglia says, “we believe it's irresponsible that the city of Southaven isn't identifying them. We're asking them to confirm these names or not.”

He goes on, "Like I said, we've had reliable source in Southaven that's identified these officers. We can't confirm it, though but we do believe it’s them."

We've reached out to the MBI several times. They haven't returned our calls.

Southaven Police Chief Seven Pirtle issued this statement to the Local I-Team:

As I stated at the outset of this tragic event, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Desoto County District Attorney's Office were immediately contacted to conduct an investigation of this matter. At this juncture, the investigation is ongoing as they are awaiting the full autopsy report from the State Medical Examiner's Office. Until I receive the report from the District Attorney's Office, I will not have all the facts for this incident and will not be able to make comments. I, just as you, am ready for the investigation to be completed, but in the meantime, as noted, I am waiting on complete information before commenting.

The Local I-Team asked District Attorney John Champion about the two names. He would not confirm it. Champion did say he has asked the investigative report be expedited, and hopes to have it within the next two weeks
