Local Cool Kid: White Station High School Art student to receive honor at Carnegie Hall

Senior awarded $10,000 scholarship and body of art will go on national display

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Interesting. Creative. Megan Cox is driven to grow as an artist and student.

"You just can't ever stop pushing yourself," said Cox.

The White Station High School Senior has spent years honing her craft. She submitted her body of art, a series of water distortion drawings using charcoal, and it's a winner.

Each year, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards receives more than 300,000 submissions from creative teens from across the country. From that pool, only 16 teens received one of the $10,000 scholarships.

Cox is the only winner from Tennessee and the only winner from the Mid-South.

"It's crazy, really, really crazy," said Cox. "A couple of years ago, I knew a girl who won the award and I was like, wow, that's so amazing. I can't believe that it's happening to me right now."

Cox's body of art will also be featured at Memphis International Airport.

Cox also has a 'Go Fund Me' page set up to help her with costs to attend the awards presentation for her scholarship at Carnegie Hall in New York. CLICK HERE TO HELP.
