LAKELAND, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - Fire fighters are on the scene of a deadly fire in Lakeland. It happened Friday afternoon in the 9100 block of Gainsborough. The victim has been identified as Nancy Allen.

Firefighters tell Local 24 Allen died trying to escape out her front door. Firefighters and even members of the media were brought to tears learning who the victim is.

Allen, a mother of four, worked at WREG here in Memphis for nearly 30 years.

This fire started because of a lightning strike. The Shelby County Fire Department arrived six minutes after the initial call, and say the home was fully engulfed.

Neighbors reported heavy smoke and flames. We are told it was an all-out effort to get this fire under control.

Memphis and Arlington fire departments helped to battle the fire.
