MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - A 9 year old Memphian loses his life drowning in an East Memphis swimming pool.

"Yeah we asked what was going on (what did they say) that a little boy was found at the bottom of the pool," said Sheila Walker.

Walker says she was shocked to hear about the 9-year-old boy who drowned in her neighbor's pool.

It happened in the backyard of a home located on the 1400-block of Titus Road.

Neighbors we spoke with Sunday say the homeowner is the boy’s Aunt.

"She was just traumatized. I mean just real upset that it happened at her house and everything," said Marcus Rosser.

Neighbors say the little boy was found in the pool, unresponsive. His two brothers also had to be pulled from the water. Walker and Rosser’s 10-year-old daughter was invited over to swim that same night but never made it there.

"At first we just heard he…you know, the ambulance came but later on we heard that he died. It was just, it was just devastating. Like I said we got a 10 year old and I can just imagine how they feel over there," said Walker.

According to Lebonheur Children's Hospital, drowning is among the leading causes of death for children. Approximately 400 kids 14 and younger drown each year in pools or spas.

Back in this East Memphis neighborhood, Police are still investigating.

"Everybody around here looks pretty sad about that. We just hope it doesn't happen again to anybody around our neighbor. It's a good neighbor so we didn't expect that to happen around here," said Mark Martinez.
