MILLINGTON, TN (abc24.com) - Millington Central High School has it all. This spring, the school's choir will be performing at Carnegie Hall. They have a literary arts program that’s starting to get recognition across the country. And, they even have a student run news program with students aiming for journalism jobs. Those are just a few of the things that make them a pretty cool school.

"I got involved with the show choir because i just love to dance and sing, and same thing with the other students, they just have so much passion," said student Jenny Casilag.

Passion is something you certainly need when you’re putting in this much work. On ABC 24's visit to Millington Central High School, members of the show choir showed us exactly why they’re one of the area's best. In fact, the school’s choir recently won a competition to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Choir director Jeffrey Murdock said, "You know Carnegie Hall is the world’s stage and so not many people have that stage to showcase their talents."

But it’s not only the students who are pretty impressive. Art teacher Amy Lang was recently named Shelby County’s Teacher of the Year. However she gives all the credit to her students and the staff at the school.

“I just bring all these great people together to do wonderful things, but they’re the ones doing the work," she said.

Also, students in the art program, like Marquise Barbee, have gotten nearly half a million dollars in college scholarship offers. He has a few ideas why Millington Central is so successful. "The family-like atmosphere, because we all just work together and it seems natural to be here."

Principal Mark Neal agrees. "We’re striving to achieve excellence in every program."

It’s obvious to anyone who visits Millington Central High they are a pretty cool school.

With that huge trip the school’s choir has set for this April to sing at Carnegie Hall, they need a bit of help. With the travel costs and equipment rentals they’re looking at upwards of $65,000 to pay for everything. If you’d like to help, contact the school at (901) 873-8100.
