Memphis Police are investigating a Memphis city employee who attacked abc24 photographer Nick Sheluga. The attack happened on Wednesday, April 10th while Sheluga was shooting video on public property at the car inspection station on Appling Road.

Police were called to the scene at the time of the attack and Sheluga explained to officials what happened. On Thursday afternoon, Nick Sheluga went to the Investigation Bureau to give police a copy of the video recording and talk to detectives.

Abc24 Senior Investigator Jeni Diprizio showed the video recording of the attack to attorney Lucian Pera. He says the city employee went too far.

"It looked like an assault to me," said Pera. "I don't understand how that would be justified regardless. I mean, if in fact someone were on city premises causing a ruckus, disturbing the peace, or whatever, it seems to me the proper remedy is not for a city employee like that to lay hands on a person, but to call the police."

Police are trying to determine if criminal charges will be filed.
