WEST MEMPHIS, AR (abc24.com) - A teen's love for a dog led to a good-natured bet; in the end, two worthy causes came out on top.

The story about Wade Walker, his long locks and his love for a dog started two weeks ago after Wade walked into the animal shelter in Marion, Arkansas to see a dog named Faith.

Wade says when his dad, Robert Walker, told him how Faith had been tortured and used as target practice, it touched Wade so much he decided to let a barber touch his hair for the first time in four years.

That's because Wade made a bet with his dad, the kids at his dad's day care and his fellow classmates at East Junior High that he would cut off all of his long tresses if they raised $500 for Faith's care at the shelter.

They raised money, so off came his hair. Soon the locks he loved so much were lying on the ground, much to Wade's delight.

"My hair is going to Locks of Love," he said. "The money is going to the Animal Shelter to help out the dog."
