MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The Bluff City Classic, a summer tradition in Memphis basketball for over 30 years, has been cancelled following a fatal shooting near the event.

A man was killed on Thursday, July 5, after a shooting near LeMoyne Owen College, where the Bluff City Classic was being held at the campus gymnasium. Police found a 29-year-old man had been shot near the corner of Walker Avenue and Neptune Street; he was transported to The MED where he later died. At the time of the shooting, police stated they did not believe it was connected to the event.

According to a spokesperson with LeMoyne Owen College, although the shooting did not occur on campus property, Bluff City Classic organizers decided to cancel the remaining games.
