Broad Avenue Receives Grant for Water Tower Depot Project

More positive changes are coming to the Broad Avenue Arts District in Memphis.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - More positive changes are coming to Broad Avenue in Memphis.

The arts district celebrated Wednesday after receiving a $350,000 grant from ArtPlace America for the Broad Avenue Water Tower Depot project.

The money will be used to transform an active warehouse loading dock area into a community-focused outdoor arts gathering and performing space.

It will also be used to convert a 140-foot water tower into a public art beacon.

"Certainly it's a new day if you've not been to Broad Avenue lately," said Pat Brown, VP of the Broad Avenue Arts District. "They don't realize the different art galleries, we have wonderful other types of businesses just to stroll, and of course great restaurants and bars to check out, so ride your bike, or drive on over, walk on over, and come to broad avenue!"

The Broad Avenue Arts District was chosen from more than 1,200 applications for the grant.
