MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A caretaker at a Memphis nursing home was arrested for stealing an elderly resident's debit card and spending hundreds of dollars.
Investigators state that between June 7 and June 11, 2012, 32-year-old Jamilla Horne and a second suspect went to several businesses using a card stolen from a resident at Poplar Point nursing home, where Horne was employed as a caretaker. Horne and the male suspect purchased nearly $1,000.
The owner of a Whitehaven jewelry store, where a purchase was made with the stolen card, provided surveillance video of the transaction for police. A manager at Poplar Point positively identified Jamilla Horne as the person making the purchase in the video, signing the victim's name on the sales slip.
Jamilla Horner was arrested July 3 and charged with Elderly Abuse, two counts of Forgery and two counts of Fraudulent Credit Card Use over $500. She is being held at the Shelby County Jail on $85,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 5.
