MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A little boy was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital after he was left alone in a hot car Wednesday.

Memphis police were called to EZ Pawn at 4751 Summer Avenue just after 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25. The child was found inside a vehicle in the parking lot with the engine off and windows rolled up.

At the time the temperature was 93 degrees outside. According to Dr. Barry Gilmore at Le Bonheur, "if the temperature outside is 93 degrees, you measure the temperature inside the car, within 20 minutes it'll be over 125, 40 minutes it'll be over 140 degrees."

The child was removed from the vehicle and transported to the hospital in non-critical condition. The mother was located and issued a misdemeanor citation for Leaving a Child in an Unattended Vehicle.

The Department of Child Services is investigating.

I'm sorry, A CITATION?!!!?? What, are we not arresting them anymore, & taking the kids away?!? I guess since this child survived, Mama just gets a CITATION!! If the child actually succumbed to the hell heat in that car, what then?! No wonder they're not giving a hoot if someone reports them or not.

I wish Mayor Wharton would have a conference about locked car doors in our area. This is killing our future and destroying families. Why would anyone lock their car doors? Locked cars with windows rolled up create an enviorment of distrust and ignorance in our community....UH well ok... I thought I was talking about gun control.. this sounds just as stuipid... my bad.
