MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The city of Memphis is considering the creation of an emergency sick leave bank similar to one the County Commission is exploring.
According to The Commercial Appeal, the policy is scheduled for a final vote before the commission on Monday.
County officials have said the policy is a way to supplement short-term disability by allowing workers to donate time that can be tapped by other employees.
The city's current policy prohibits the transfer of sick time to other employees.
City Council member Harold Collins, chairman of the Council's personnel committee, said he likes the way the proposed county policy is structured and that he's interested in looking at a similar policy for Memphis.
Officials with Mayor A C Wharton's administration are also considering the idea.
