MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Collierville man has been charged with killing another motorist in a head-on collision while driving drunk in Cordova Wednesday night.
Police were called to an accident on Cordova Road west of Germantown Parkway around 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26. Investigators say 21-year-old Jordan Stonebrook was driving westbound on Cordova Road in the eastbound lanes when his Chevrolet Tahoe hit a Buick Park Avenue head on. The driver of the Buick was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to the police affidavit, officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on Stonebrook and saw an open bottle of Captain Morgan Rum in the passenger floor board of his vehicle. They also noted that Stonebrook had slurred speech and was in a state of confusion, telling officers several times he "f***ed up" and admitted to taking seven shots of rum earlier that evening.
Stonebrook was administered a Blood Alcohol Test and arrested on charges of Vehicular Homicide while Intoxicated, DUI, Open Container, Reckless Driving and Public Intoxication. He was booked at the Shelby County Jail on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court September 28.
