MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Commemorative bricks bought years ago and placed at The Pyramid in Memphis are being removed and it isn't clear where they'll end up.
According to The Commercial Appeal, workers began taking up the bricks after a fiberglass statue of Ramesses II was moved to the University of Memphis campus last week.
Before The Pyramid opened in 1991, families or individuals paid $50 each to buy more than 12,000 bricks that were inscribed to their wishes and used as paving stones in a plaza in front of the building. The Pyramid has now been leased to Bass Pro Shops.
City Housing and Community Development director Robert Lipscomb said the bricks may follow Ramesses to U of M or might be stored so families who bought them can retrieve them.
