Memphis has an African-American population of more than 70 percent. Shelby County has a minority population of more than 51 percent. There are Blacks here, there are Whites here…who cares? I have lived in Memphis all my life. Sent my child to Memphis City Schools. My child graduated, got married moved to Shelby County & now has children in the County School System. Just like Me, my now grown child, has the right to decide where they will live and how my grand children will be raised and educated. As parents we all make those decisions for our children (as we should). It's not about race. It's about deciding for yourself, what's best for your child. Politicians, come and go; family is forever. I have no use for condensing Politicians playing the race card to promote their own agenda. That's an insult to all parents in the City of Memphis and those in Shelby County.

joseph you are correct - parents are the key and bottom line is that no one (rational) would want their children to be around the crap in inner city memphis on a daily basis. that is a diversity that most could do without

I have lived in Memphis all my life. Sent my only child to Memphis City Schools. She graduated in 2000. She got married moved to Arlington & now has children of her own. Just like Me, she has the right to decide where she will live and how her children will be raised and educated. Welcome to America!

My four kids went to Houston Middle School. They graduated from Houston High. To my knowledge, There was never any trouble worth speaking of. No Shooting, no stabbing, no fights that I recall. Guess what? The student body was made up of Whites, Blacks, Asians, Indians, Latinos etc. It's because the parents there hold their kids to a much higher standard. That's it in a nut shell. Wake up Memphis. Parents DO YOUR JOB. Don't scream racisim because people in the suburbs want whats best for their kids.

White people have rights too. It's just that simple. Kudos to the suburbs for not wanting to be dragged down to the level of the MCS.

I am baffled by people who scream racism every time someone disagrees with them. It seems that after running out of valid arguments and valid opinions, the word "Racism" rears its ugy head. I have nothing against the children of Memphis, I believe they should be afforded the education that the county children are afforded. However, I do not want the members of MCS (who decided that they had failed the children of MCS and dissolved thier school system) running the SCS system. I want nothing to do with the people who tout this is for the good of the children as they pat themselves on their back as they give themselves raises. If I threw up my hands and surrendered at my job because I could no longer handle it, do you think I would still have a job? Would you? These people who run the MCS board feel entitled to thier jobs. If one is incompetent (I do not care if you are white, black, red, yellow, or polka dotted), you are still incompetent. That does not make me a racist. Give me your children, but fire your politicians who are using race to get their "entitlement).

Everybody's a racist but me! Therefore, I get to rule your world! What a collection of cheap, shameless scoundrels. No wonder government education in this country hasn't improved in 30 years.
