BOLIVAR COUNTY, MS (abc24.com) - Friends and family of 20-year-old Shelby Harmon are demanding answers, days after she died on a rural Bolivar County road.
Harmon died early Saturday morning. Investigators say she'd been hit by several cars, including one driven by her boyfriend.
"She was taken away from us in such a bad way," said Ashley Ramirez, Harmon's best friend.
Friends say Harmon got into a fight with her boyfriend early Saturday morning. Some say she was planning on breaking up with him. Within hours, she was dead.
An investigator with the Mississippi Highway Patrol told a local newspaper it was clear several vehicles hit Harmon, including her boyfriend's.
On Tuesday, dozens protested outside the Bolivar County Courthouse in Cleveland, demanding justice.
"We just want to let everybody know that everyone is welcome to come out here and be with us and show support for Shelby and her family," said Sandy Nance, a family friend.
"Just have closure for her and her family, and everybody that loved her," Ramirez said.
Since Saturday, a Facebook page entitled "Justice for Shelby" has attracted more than 8,000 likes. On Tuesday night, a restaurant in Drew, Miss., held a fundraiser for Harmon's family.
"When people come and shine a spotlight on what is going on here, somebody will have to do something," said Nance.
Investigators say they continue to chase leads and have interviewed the drivers, including Harmon's boyfriend. They are still waiting on test results from the state crime lab.
In the meantime, Harmon's friends and family planned to meet outside the Bolivar County Courthouse again on Wednesday morning.
